Another day, another filthy play by Zlatan Ibrahimovic to help guide AC Milan to a result. This time, he didn’t score the goal himself, but provided a brilliant assist to Pato. Milan lead 1-0 on Genoa, who will find the road back to a positive result to be a rocky one, thanks to Milan’s tough tackling midfield.
Genoa Vs. AC Milan: Pato Goal, Zlatan Ibrahimovic Assist Give Milan The Lead
Milan’s unorthodox lineup is working well so far, with Max Allegri opting to start a forward three of Ibrahimovic, Pato, and Robinho, who are supported by a physical midfield with no one who you could reasonably call a passer or a creator. Instead, Ibrahimovic is that creator, and he’s proven his credentials. From the right side of the penalty area, he played a brilliant ball across the face of goal, between the legs of his defender and over the out-stretched leg of Pato’s defender. The young Brazilian had a simple, tap-in finish, and Milan went up 1-0.
Seriously, Milan are playing a midfield of Mathieu Flamini, Genaro Gattuso, and Mark Van Bommel. That midfield is an 11 out of 10 on the grittiness scale. Sam Allardyce doesn’t play a midfield with that little creativity. And yet, Milan are not the least bit negative.
