It hasn’t been a good half at all for Liverpool FC’s Maxi Rodriguez in the first half of their match against Chelsea FC. The Argentinian international has struggled on multiple occasions, with the lowlight of his performance coming when he hit the crossbar instead of scoring on an absolute sitter. Twitter is filled with reactions from various folks about his performance, including plenty of prominent journalists...and cartoonists. If you’ve never heard of Chris Toy, he has a hilarious comic called “Studs Up,” and he’s got a bit of an ironic take on Maxi’s miss:

Man, with finishing like that Pool should probably go spend 60 million on strikers or something.

Sports Illustrated’s soccer editor Jen Chang is a little more blunt with his criticism of Maxi Rodriguez:
Aside from the superb defense-splitting pass to release Torres earlier, Maxi is having a shocker.

Another journalist employed by Sports Illustrated, Grant Wahl, is a little more roundabout with his criticism of Maxi. Or, should we say, proactive? Mr. Wahl is solutions-based instead of just offering criticism:

Luis Suarez is obviously not the same player as Maxi Rodriguez, but he has played wide in his career and is perfectly capable of operating in that role. Or, Kenny Dalglish could switch it up considerably and go with two strikers up top. In any event, Maxi has been poor and a substitution wouldn’t be shocking. Fabio Aurelio played mid-week, and he played well. He was warming up on the sidelines, and is another option for Dalglish.
