Croatia Vs. Czech Republic: 4-2 Full Time, Petr Cech Has A Shocker

Croatia and the Czech Republic certainly put on a show tonight Pula, scoring a total of six goals, only two of which could be classified as goals that came from brilliant attacking play. Both defenses and goalkeepers had their moments of ineptitude, with Chelsea FC goalkeeper Petr Cech having an absolute shocker. Blackburn Rovers striker Nikola Kalinic and Shakhtar Donestk and Croatia captain Dario Srna had a fantastic game from his right back position.

The first goal of the game was scored in the 8th minute by current Shakhtar Donestk striker and former Arsenal man Eduardo da Silva. This would be Cech’s first bad error, as he hesitated to challenge Eduardo, then let the striker finish between his legs. The second goal was less the fault of Cech, but still poor goalkeeping, as Kalinic scored his first goal on a soft header that Cech inexplicably failed to get a hand on due to poor positioning and a slow reaction time. After 12 minutes, Croatia were 2-0 ahead.

Before the end of the second half, the Czech Republic would bring back a goal, then equalize. The first goal came on a fantastic header off of a set piece by Besiktas destroyer Tomas Sivok in the 20th minute. The equalizer would come in the first minute of first half stoppage time by Tomas Rosicky of Arsenal, made easy by some poor defending by Tottenham Hotspur’s Vedran Corluka.

The second half was all Croatia, though, and the Czech Republic’s comeback would be in vain. Kalinic completed his brace with an incredible goal in the 61st minute. Tomislav Dujmovic provided a brilliant pass over the top to Kalinic, setting up his chance. From a narrow angle, he smoked a left footed shot into the roof of the net, one which Cech had no chance of saving.

However, the final goal was all on Cech, who made his worst error of the night. Attempting to dribble the ball like a midfielder in - get this - the middle of the pitch, he gave the ball away. Croatia then had possession with Cech literally 50 yards off his line. Ivo Ilicevic lobbed the ball towards goal and there was no one to prevent it from going in, giving Croatia their final goal of the night.
