Just when it looked like Real Madrid were going to run away with this one, Hercules have managed to work their way back into this match just before half time, with Thomert and Kiko Femenía forcing Iker Casillas into two smart stops which have prevented the away side from drawing level. Before those chances, Hercules had been all over the place, with the midfield completely missing as Real Madrid carved out chances at will, but credit to Esteban Vigos men who have dug deep to change the pattern of play.
Real Madrid Vs Hercules: HALF-TIME - Iker Casillas Maintains Madrid Lead
But as long as the score remains at 1-0, Hercules will feel that they will have their chances, although the ‘Alicantinos’ simply cannot allow Real Madrid to create chances so easily, with Emmanuel Adebayor guilty of not having extended his sides lead when presented with two relatively clear cut chances. As it is, Karim Benzemas close range strike is the difference between the two sides in a match that has ticked along nicely without ever really getting you out of your seat.
So far it’s a job well done from Mourinhos unfamiliar looking line-up.
