Before he was involved in a car accident that claimed the life of one woman and almost ended his career, Charlie Davies was one of the most promising young players in the United States men’s national soccer team player pool. That accident happened in October of 2009, and while he’s been training and playing reserve games for FC Sochaux in France, tonight was Davies’ first full professional match since the accident. Davies is on loan at D.C. United from Sochaux, and he managed to score two goals in his MLS debut. Check out the video right hurr.
Charlie Davies Nets Two Goals For D.C. United In Opener
Davies is well noted for his awesome celebrations, and he busted out his famous stanky leg dance after scoring his second goal. It’s worth mentioning that the first goal of the game was scored by Josh Wolff and he busted out an awesome celebration of his own, jumping into La Barra Brava like it were a mosh pit. Columbus Crew aren’t a great team and Davies didn’t start the match, so it’s tough to tell if this is indicative of things to come for Davies, but it seems probable that he’ll be able to bang in some goals. D.C. United’s roster is loaded in the midfield, they just need a guy to poke the ball into the back of the net. Davies might fit the bill. Honestly, soccer aside, how amazing is it to see a guy who almost died in a car crash playing professional soccer about 18 months later? Spectacular. And if you’re wondering how Chuck D was feeling after tonight’s game...
