Mexico Vs. Venezuela 2011 Score: Venezuela Equalizes Off Corner Kick

After the second half started so well for Mexico, things have gone downhill fast. In fact, they have gone downhill to the point where a couple of unruly (read: stupid) fans have decided to throw beer in the general direction of Chepo de la Torre. Interestingly enough, the man burned by Venezuela’s goal scorer, Oswaldo Vizcarrondo, is a long time Toluca star with minimal national team experience, Edgar Dueñas. Between him and Sinha, it might not be unfair to speculate about whether or not Chepo is playing favorites.

Full credit to Venezuela for fighting back against a hostile crowd and to Tomas Rincon for delivering an excellent corner kick, but the defending by Dueñas on the goal was unacceptably poor. It was the kind of stuff that, since he’s 28 years old, should probably keep him off the Mexican national team. Now, at 1-1 late in the second half, it’s time to see what kind of fight the new players have in them. Could Giovani Dos Santos or Aldo de Nigris pull out some late heroics?
