Damien Duff was open for 15 seconds before he got the ball. While the Cottagers knocked it around in the middle, the winger stood out on the right wing, waiting, with arms outstretched. By the time his teammates got him the ball, the defense was so packed in that he had all the time he could have wanted to work against Martin Olson. Backing the Blackburn left back down to within eight years of goal, Duff blasted a ball between his counterpart's leg, under Mark Schwarzer, and into net for the match's opening goal.
Fulham Vs. Blackburn: Damien Duff Blasts Cottagers In Front
The goal came after a string of possession that saw the Rovers unable to break up a string of passes from the Cottagers. Ultimately, Fulham played a ball into the defensive line for Clint Dempsey, and although the attacker immediately touched the ball back into midfield, the Rovers line had collapsed, opening up space for Duff on the wing. The Rover product made made his former club pay, giving Fulham a 1-0 lead.
