Jamie Carragher was to the Manchester United locker room after Sunday's North West Derby, according to reports from the BBC. The veteran Liverpool defender was hoping to apologize for a tackle that forced Nani from the match with a gash just above his left ankle.
Jamie Carragher Attempted To Apologize To Nani Post-Match After Reckless Challenge Injured United Winger
Carragher, who had been shifted to right back in the middle of the first half when Fabio Aurelio left the match (sending Glen Johnson to left back), jumped into a challenge with an extended left leg, Nani standing on the ball along United's left flank. Nani appeared to escape the tackle without harm, jumping to his feet to appeal to official Phil Dowd. Within moments, the United attacker was on the pitch, in tears with a large wound on his lower shin.
Nani was stretchered from the pitch just before halftime and did not return. Manchester United confirmed Nani suffered a “very deep gash” and will be reassessed on Monday.
Carragher was shown a yellow card by Dowd for the challenge. Javier Hernández would replace Nani and scored United’s only goal in their 3-1, Sunday loss.
