Timbers Supporters Get Rare Chance To Sing National Anthem

For the Timbers Army, the main supporter group of the Portland Timbers, their wait is nearly over. Come Thursday night their Timbers will finally be home for the first time in the 2011 season when they host the Chicago Fire (a game that will be on ESPN2). Usually that is good enough for most fans of any club, much less an expansion one like Portland.

But the Timbers Army has gotten chosen to do something very rare, so rare that I don’t believe it’s ever been done in Major League Soccer. They will sing the national anthem, as a group for the inaugural home game at Jeld-Wen Field. Yes, the entire supporter’s section will get to sing the national anthem as one and it will apparently be on ESPN2 as well.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

At the end of the National Anthem we have a tifo display planned. It will probably be something epically cool like what they did once below.

I marked the Portland home opener when the season schedule came out because I knew it would be a special event. This kind of thing shows just that.
