Details are still a bit sketchy, but it sure looks like Portland Timbers GM Gavin Wilkinson got himself ejected from his team's MLS home opener just before halftime. It's not entirely clear if referee Ricardo Salazar even has the authority for such a thing, yet that's exactly what he appeared to be doing after Wilkinson refused to give a ball to a Fire player after it had gone out of bounds.
Did Portland Timbers GM Gavin Wilkinson Really Get Ejected? Yes, It Appears He Did

It's not exactly a classy move on the part of Wilkinson, who should otherwise be feeling pretty darn good about himself and his organization. The Timbers are leading the Chicago Fire 2-0 at halftime, his crowd has been electric and the refurbished stadium looks like it's an absolute jewel. He's also coming off a week in which he has received plaudits for bringing in Club America for a summer friendly and he just signed his franchise's first ever Designated Player, Diego Chara.
↵And yet, people are probably going to spend an inordinate time in the next few days talking about the idiotic MLS general manager who managed to get himself thrown out of a game. Smooth.
