Portland Timbers Vs. Chicago Fire: Eric Brunner’s Own Goal Cuts Lead To 3-1

Eric Brunner put a bit of a damper on what has so far been a fullblown celebration at Jeld-Wen Field, scoring an own goal to cut the Portland Timbers' lead to 3-1 over the Chicago Fire in the 66th minute. Brunner, one of the more experienced defenders on the field for the Timbers, was trying to clear a ball that Fire forward Orr Barouch had sent in to Marco Pappa, but instead hit it past goalkeeper Jake Gleeson.

Up until that point, the Timbers have been dominating the match, nearly adding to their lead on several occasions. Their best chance came just a few minutes before Brunner's own goal when Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson failed to handle yet another cross, but Kenny Cooper whiffed on what looked like a complete sitter. After the own goal, Cooper once again found himself with a good goal-scoring chance, but he failed to stay onside as Sal Zizzo brought the ball up field.
