Major League Soccer has retroactively issued punishment for Seattle Sounders midfielder Servando Carrasco's challenge on Chicago Fire forward Patrick Nyarko during the closing stages of the 2-1 Seattle win at Qwest Field last Saturday. The 22-year-old received a yellow card for the play, but after reviewing footage of the incident the MLS disciplinary committee has decided to suspend him for a match and fine him $500. What was so bad about the tackle?

↵That’s an ankle-breaker if there ever was one. This is a good call by MLS - Nyarko’s safety was definitely at risk here, and he was lucky to emerge relatively unscathed. You’d have to imagine that Seattle knew something like this was coming down the pipeline, as Carrasco did not travel with the team on their latest road trip. The Sounders take on the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.
