While We’re Handing Out Retroactive Red Cards, David Beckham Deserves One Too

Major League Soccer deserves applause for handing out a retroactive red card to Servando Carrasco for his dangerous tackle on Patrick Nyarko. But that move is only as good as the precedent it sets and it seems MLS is ignoring another obvious candidate: David Beckham, whose scissor-tackle on Josh Wolff last week was every bit as dangerous and ill-executed as Carrasco's.

Not only does Beckham come in absurdly late, but it doesn't even look like he made an attempt at the ball. The fact that Beckham is now the person whining about too many cards being handed out by MLS referees is only highlighted by the fact that he received nothing more than a yellow for this tackle.

Now, there’s definitely a possibility that MLS is choosing to look the other way, since Beckham ended up getting a fifth yellow card in the following game, meaning he’s already receiving a one-match suspension. But MLS just looks feckless when they go after someone making the minimum, like Carrasco, while doing nothing to their highest paid player.
