When the Sons of Ben cancelled their tailgate prior to Saturday’s Philadelphia Union-Seattle Sounders match, it drew a bit of a chuckle from many in the Northwest. Turns out, they probably made the right call. Numerous reports have suggested the weather at PPL Park resembles a monsoon, with driving rain and wind making for an interesting day.
Philadelphia Union Vs. Seattle Sounders, Lineups: Fredy Montero On Bench, Monsoon Conditions Await
Other than the weather, the game is lining up basically as expected as the Union and Sounders are both going with the same groups of starters they used last week. The one exception is Kyle Nakazawa getting the nod for the Union in the midfield.
It is worth noting that Fredy Montero is on the bench for the Sounders. He had missed the last two games while recovering from wrist surgery, but will be available today. It also appears Sounders coach Sigi Schmid had a little fun with his lineup, listing Steve Zakuani at forward and Mauro Rosales in the midfield, as well as putting Brad Evans out wide. Expect all three of those players to remain in their more established positions.
Union staters: Mondragon; Harvey, Califf, Valdes, Williams; Daniel, Miglioranzi, Okugo, Nakazawa; Le Toux, Ruiz. Bench: MacMath, Mwanga, Mapp, McInerney, M Farfan, Torres, Gonzalez
Sounders starters: Keller; Riley, Parke, Hurtado, Gonzalez; Friberg, Alonso, Rosales, Evans; Zakuani, White. Bench: Boss, Levesque, Ianni, Wahl, Jaqua, Fernandez, Montero
