Kyle Nakazawa received the ball out wide on the right and faked a cross which got Osvaldo Alonso off the ground in an attempt to block it. Nakazawa dribbled toward the middle where he was taken down with a scissor tackle by Alonso which referee Terry Vaughn whistled for a foul. Carlos Ruiz would step up to take the free kick and blast it past Kasey Keller for the 1-0 lead.
The rain is really coming down in Chester, and both teams are starting to adjust. Mauro Rosales has been the most active player for the Sounders. There’s not a lot of dangerous play coming from the Sounders who have struggled scoring goals this season. They will need to do a lot better if they hope to score against the Union’s defense who have only conceded one goal this season.
