Andres Mendoza is starting the match on the bench for the Columbus Crew as they host Sporting Kansas City on Saturday in front of what appears to be a nearly empty stadium. Mendoza became a Designated Player over the offseason, continuing what has become a strange trend in which more DPs are not starting than starting. No DP has started every one of their team's games this season through a combination of benchings, card suspensions and injuries.
