Vancouver Whitecaps supporters have to be encouraged by their team's play in the first half, but they'll undoubtedly be wondering what they have to do to get a goal. The home side were better than visiting Chivas USA and had their chances to go in front, but either by good defensive play or a stroke of bad luck they were denied. Now, Vancouver goes into half knowing that they are very close to going on top, while Chivas will have to regroup and come out with a different approach when the final 45 minutes get underway.
Vancouver Whitecaps Vs. Chivas USA: Whitecaps Superior, But Unable To Find Goal In Scoreless First Half
The match was fairly even early, but it wasn't long before the Whitecaps grabbed a hold of it. It looked like they would go on top 10 minutes in, but a shot that beat Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy was cleared off the line by Simon Elliot. Another Whitecaps foray forward resulted in the ball striking the bar and Eric Hassli has multiple chances on goal, only to miss the frame or be denied by Kennedy.
If the second half goes the way that the first half did, you would have to think that Vancouver finds a goal to come away winners. One thing that Chivas does have to turn the tide is Justin Braun on the bench and his introduction can change the face of the match. The Goats have had nothing going forward and have even resorted to a few long balls for Alejandro Moreno to run onto, something that is a laughable method of attack at best and sad at worst.
