DC United were 2-0 up against Toronto FC within ten minutes of kickoff at BMO Field and they never looked in any danger of squandering that lead to their hosts, who never really recovered from awful starts to both halves. Chris Pontius opened the scoring after a magnificent run through the massed Toronto defence and a neat finish that left Stefan Frei motionless before Charlie Davies made it two after Frei could only parry a shot from Josh Wolff. The second half didn't start with a DC goal - instead Toronto decided to mix things up and decided a red card would be a fun thing to have.
Toronto FC Vs. DC United: DC Earn Comfortable 3-0 Win In Canada
Once again Chris Pontius was involved, the midfielder bursting towards the area only to be hacked down by Ty Harden, who was correctly shown a straight red for denial of a clear goal scoring opportunity, and Pontius extended the lead shortly thereafter with a brilliant juke and curled finish to make it 3-0. The visitors had several opportunities to extend their lead - it's slightly difficult to explain exactly how three DC players failed to put the ball in the net when they were a combined two yards from goal, but 3-0 it remained as DC United cruised to a win. As for Toronto, it was an immensely disappointing performance from Aron Winter's side - they're been having trouble scoring since the departure of Dwayne De Rosario, but their defensive meltdown (at home, no less) was shocking today.
