New York Red Bulls Vs. San Jose Earthquakes: New York Coast To 3-0 Win

Last time they took to the turf at Red Bull Arena, New York thoroughly outclassed the Philadelphia Union before succumbing to a surprise 1-0 defeat. This time out, they didn't have any problems scoring goals. Hans Backe raised some eyebrows by including Luke Rodgers in his starting eleven ahead of much-heralded USMNT prospect Juan Agudelo, but Rodgers netted twice in the early stages to put the hosts into a commanding lead over the visiting San Jose Earthquakes before capping things off by providing an assist for captain Thierry Henry to notch his first MLS goal of 2011.

Going along with that phenomenal debut by Rodgers was an excellent all-round performance by the Red Bulls, who could easily have had five or six goals over the course of the match (Henry was responsible for missing two glorious chances). San Jose, on the other hand, disappointed, achieving very little penetration into Bouna Coundoul's penalty box and never looking like they could overturn that early deficit. New York are finally playing like the team they're supposed to be, which will probably soothe a lot of the doubts many have had about the club.
