No one said Sporting Kansas City's season-opening 10-match road trip was going to be easy, but just about everyone said they needed to get off to a strong start in order to keep from falling too far behind. After their 1-0 loss to the Columbus Crew, they now have four points through four matches and their schedule starts to get much tougher quickly. After a match at New England next week, they have matches at New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and Colorado before closing out at Toronto.
Columbus Crew Vs. Sporting Kansas City: Robbie Rogers’ Goal The Difference In Crew’s 1-0 Victory
Coming off a two-week break, this seemed like a match in which they really needed a result. Instead, they played to a scoreless draw in the first half, but gave up a 53rd minute goal to Robbie Rogers off an assist from Dilly Duka. They also lost starting center back Julio Cesar, who picked up two yellow cards and will now miss SKC's next match.
SKC was unable to create many chances before or after Rogers’ score, putting just two shots on target, although they did outpossess the Crew 52-48.
The Crew now sit at 2-1-2 and are tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with eight points. They never showed much ambition, but they defended well and continued to get results despite not looking particularly strong.
