Although Carlos de los Cobos has it listed as a formal 4-4-2 on his lineup card, it looks as if he may have brought back the 3-5-2 that so many of have been dying to see given an extended run against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday. The reason for our optimism is the return of Josip Mikulic to the lineup after missing the last two matches. Marco Pappa, the other key component to that formation, is also in the starting lineup, further adding to the belief that the three-back formation will return.
LA Galaxy Vs. Chicago Fire, Lineups: Looks Like The 3-5-2 Is Back And Sean Johnson Goes To Bench
Mikulic will most likely be joined by Jalil Anibabab and Cory Gibbs in the back, with Gonzalo Segares sliding into more of a midfield role. Davis Paul would likely join Segares as the other wing back. The other significant change in the Fire's lineup is Jon Conway taking over for struggling goalkeeper Sean Johnson.
The Galaxy will counter with a pretty standard 4-4-2, although probably not exactly the way Bruce Arena listed on his lineup card. Mike Magee, not Miguel Lopez, will most likely join Chad Barrett at forward.
Galaxy starters: Ricketts; Hejduk, Leonardo, Gonzalez, Dunivant; Stephens, Birchall, Magee, Cardozo; Barrett, Lopez
Fire starters: Conway; Anibaba, Mikulic, Gibbs, Segares; Pappa, Videira, Pause, Paul; Puerari, Chaves
