Chad Barrett ended a Los Angeles Galaxy scoring drought that had stretched out to 217 minutes, putting his team ahead 1-0 of the Chicago Fire in the 42nd minute on Sunday. Barrett was able to get free inside the penalty area off a nice diagonal feed from Miguel Lopez and easily beat Fire goalkeeper Jon Conway, who is starting in place of the struggling Sean Johnson. The goal was actually the third of the match, but the first two goals -- one from each team -- were waived off for offside calls.
Chicago Fire Vs. LA Galaxy: Chad Barrett Opens Account, Galaxy Lead 1-0 At Halftime
The Galaxy are playing the match without Juninho and all three of their Designated Players, Landon Donovan, David Beckham and Juan Pablo Angel. Junino is out because of a red-card suspension; Beckham is out after receiving five yellow cards this season; Donovan is injured; and Angel is being given a day off.
Lopez is one of the players who is starting, largely because of those absences. He has helped create a couple good scoring chances and his pass to Barrett was the key play on the goal.
