UANL Tigres are in good shape atop Group 1, while Atlante are in a dogfight in the crazy Group 2. Tigres could probably coast to a Liguilla place at this point, while Atlante still have a lot of work to do. Still, despite that, Eben Lehman of SB Nation’s Mexican football blog FMF State Of Mind says that the pressure is on Tigres, not Atlante this weekend.
UANL Tigres Vs. Atlante, Pressure On Tigres: FMF State Of Mind
While both teams need the points, the greater pressure to win may actually be on Tigres. Tigres have managed three straight disappointing draws against beatable opponents (Chivas, San Luis, Estudiantes Tecos), and the home fans will expect a better performance against Atlante. Tigres have also scored just one total goal in their past three games, and will look to get striker Hector Mancilla back on track. The team’s attack will be somewhat limited by the loss of Damian Alvarez, who will miss this match due to injury. With rivals Monterrey breathing down their necks in the standings, Tigres will need to press the action forward to ensure they get the win at home.
Alvarez will certainly be a big miss, but Tigres should still have the talent to get a home win. You can check out the game at 9 pm ET on Telemundo, and we’ll have live coverage right here at SB Nation Soccer.
