So far, the match between Villarreal and FC Barcelona has been odd, to say the least. Both Lionel Messi and Xavi are missing from the Blaugranes starting lineup, meaning that Barca aren’t really Barca. They look like some weird shell of Barca, but when those guys aren’t on the pitch, it’s really not that cool. As a result, Villarreal have had some decent chances and it’s a really even game. Though, to be honest, I want to see Xavi and Messi. Unless Villarreal scores soon or those guys enter the game, this is going to continue to be pretty boring.
Villarreal Vs. FC Barcelona: 0-0 Halftime, And Not Riveting Football
SB Nation’s new Villarreal blog, Villarreal USA, has some good discussion going in their match thread, and I thought I’d rip an insightful quote. On Javier Mascherano’s apparent injury and Barcelona’s sportsmanship:
He’s back on the pitch and seems to be normal, fouling Cazorla hard with no card. I think there’s good reason to be skeptical of him. And now Dani Alves is down in a heap and writhing.
And from Barca Blaugranas, I found this really interesting, and it demonstrates how weird this game has been so far.
Technically I would be happy with a draw. That would put us six points ahead in the standings, meaning we would have to lose the El Clasico and another game just to get even on points with Real Madrid. And unless we lose in Madrid by more than five we still hold the tiebreaker and with just eight games left, I find it very difficult to imagine a scenario when we don’t win the league.
Yes, Barcelona fans would be happy with a draw. There is now a game that has happened at some point ever, now, where Barcelona fans would be okay with a draw. The world is coming to an end.
