Andres Iniesta will be available for the club’s Champions League semifinal next week after UEFA dismissed a additional ban for the play making midfielder.
Andres Iniesta Cleared For Champions League Semifinal As UEFA Dismiss Suspension
UEFA initially handed down a one-match ban to Iniesta for deliberately provoking a yellow card in Barca’s first leg defeat of Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League quarterfinal. The card allowed Iniesta to miss the second leg match, instead of risking a suspension for the first leg of the semifinal.
Barcelona appealed the ban on behalf of their player, submitting claims against the UEFA proposal which were accepted by the governing body. Barcelona announced the decision today on their official website:
Andres Iniesta will play the first leg of the semifinals of the Champions League against Real Madrid on Wednesday 27 April, at the Santiago Bernabeu. UEFA has rejected a possible sanction the midfielder after the club had submitted claims to the proposal of the European body to sanction a party for additional midfielder received a yellow card in the match against Shakhtar on 6 April.
With Iniesta’s status for next week resolved, Barcelona turn their attention to tonight’s Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.
