It was a match that died out in the second half as both teams seemed to settle for a draw, and Nacional paid the price after Fluminese scored a late penalty to beat Argentinos Juniors 4-2 and advance to the next stage of the tournament at Nacional's expense. Club America also go through, incidentally. One has to wonder just why the home side seemed to be ok with drawing 0-0 - after the first half the Uruguayan outfit seemed perfectly happy to let the gets have the ball, only really testing Guillermo "Memo" Ochoa in the America goal towards the very end of the game.
Nacional Vs. Club America: Hosts Out After 0-0 Draw
Other than that, it was a poor second half, and frankly Nacional deserve to go out of the tournament based on that display. It seemed like they were simply banking on Fluminese’s 3-2 result to hold up, and, well, it didn’t. There’s really no excuse for them not going for it in Montevideo though. Disappointing.
