It didn't take the Columbus Crew long to make the most of their man advantage. Emilio Renteria scored in the 49th minute off a header. The cross came into the box from Crew defender Sebastien Miranda, which found Renteria wide open. Toronto FC keeper Stefan Frei had no chance to make the save on the goal.
Toronto FC Vs. Columbus Crew: Renteria Pulls Crew Level
Both clubs made subs going into the second half. Toronto made a defensive sub in light of the red card to Toni Tchani before the end of the first half. Mikeal Yourassowsky came on to start the half for striker Alan Gordan. The Crew on the other hand made an offensive sub by bringing on Tom Heinemann in place for Emmanuel Ekpo.
We’re still seeing a pretty physical game here between these two rivals. Moments after the Crew goal there was another scuffle in front of Will Hesmer’s goal. Hesmer made a save on a cross by Toronto but bumped into a Toronto player. Naturally the Crew defenders were trying to protect their keeper by shoving the Toronto player away. No cards were given on the play but you can tell things will continue to remain physical between these two.
