Alain Rochet's header from Davide Chiemiento's cross in the 25th minute put the Vancouver Whitecaps ahead 1-0 and David Ferreira was unable to convert a penalty just three minutes later, missing a golden opportunity to draw FC Dallas level heading into half time. It was an open first half with a lot of opportunities for both sides (and not a whole lot of defending from either) but Rochet was the only player able to convert.
Vancouver Whitecaps Vs. FC Dallas: Teams Enter The Half With Vancouver Leading 1-0
FC Dallas were awarded the penalty after Rochet left his arm at his side and got in the way of Andrew Jacobson's shot after Jay Nolly dropped an easy ball in to hand the Dallas midfielder the opportunity. Reigning MLS MVP Ferreiera stepped up to the spot but his driven effort was well wide of the post, preserving the lead for the home side. Dallas stepped up the pressure after the missed chance, but despite some serious disorganization at times from the Whitecaps back line they were unable to capitalize.
