Vancouver Whitecaps Vs. FC Dallas: Eric Avila Puts Dallas Ahead 2-1, Eric Hassli Booked And Will Miss Next Game

FC Dallas midfielder Eric Avila pounced on a loose ball at the edge of the box and hit a low shot past a diving Jay Nolly to give the visitors a 2-1 lead with less than ten minutes of regular time remaining. FC Dallas had been hitting the Whitecaps with a steady stream of dangerous counters all half long and Vancouver's disorganization at the back caught up to them in a big way as Avila was completely unmarked and allowed to take several touches before shooting.

Moments before the goal, Vancouver striker Eric Hassli was booked for a foul while fighting for a ball with George John, and it must be said that there is legitimate reason to think that no foul was committed, let alone a bookable offense. Hassli was pulled aside and given a talking to by Juan Guzman after George John went down in the box attempting a clearance. Replays appeared to show that John simply got caught in the turf and tripped, as Hassli was nowhere near John and at the moment the Dallas defender went down appeared to have his back turned.
