Thomas Di Benedetto is the new owner of AS Roma, and he's not a terribly popular guy. A lot of Italian fans see the purchase of Roma by Di Benedetto, and American, as a bad sign for the future of Italian football. Apparently, Di Benedetto isn't phased by this at all, and he's in the process of pissing off even more people.
AS Roma’s New Ownership Considering Logo Change
Apparently, Di Benedetto sees Roma as a potential global brand. Also, apparently, the club’s current logo is not suitable for mass commercial enterprise. As a result, Roma is rumored to be re-designing Roma’s logo. If the above-linked report by Football Italia is true, the club will be announcing the new logo in a matter of days, then applying it to all new merchandise.
Of course, this is all part of a vast conspiracy to ‘Americanize’ the club. Soon, the scoreboard at the Olimpico will flash “LOUDER!” and “CHARGE!” all while the team takes a break at the 20 and 65 minute marks for commercials.
Okay, I made up that last paragraph. Let’s wait and see whether or not the logo is poor and/or disrespectful to the club’s history before passing too much judgment.
