Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta is a doubt for the first leg of the Champions League semifinal between Real Madrid and the Blaugranas at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday after picking up a calf problem. While several reports have him as unable to start, both AS and Marca have Iniesta as doubtful rather than certainly unavailable. Should he indeed be unfit to go a full 90 minutes, Seydou Keita would be the obvious straight-up replacement in the Barcelona midfield, although losing a player of Iniesta's stature would obvious be a major blow to the vistors' hopes of leaving Madrid with a positive result.
Real Madrid Vs. Barcelona, 2011 UEFA Champions League: Andres Iniesta Doubtful For Blaugranas
Iniesta, if you’ll recall, was originally slated to miss the match anyway due to a ban handed down by UEFA for deliberately earning a yellow card in the first leg of Barcelona’s quarterfinal against Shakhtar Donetsk, which was eventually overturned on appeal. After all the fuss over how unfair the proposed ban was, it would be ironic if the World Cup winner missed the match anyway due to injury.
