Augusto Fernandez scored twice in the first half, assisted by Santiago Silva and Juan Manuel Martinez, who both provided fantastic setups for Fernandez. The half ended with the score 2-0, and Velez already appeared to have a massive advantage at that point. Not far after the second half started, Luis Bolaños was sent off for a second yellow card offense, and Sebastien Dominguez scored on the ensuing free kick, all but putting the tie to bed. Néicer Reasco Yano received a red card as well, and both him and Bolaños will be suspended for the second leg, seriously impacting LDU Quito’s chances of a surprise comeback.
