Velez Sarsfield Vs. LDU Quito, 2011 Copa Libertadores: 3-0 Full Time, Home Side Virtually Punch Quarterfinal Ticket

Velez Sarsfield won huge tonight in Buenos Aires, putting up a big fat 3-0 win on the scoreboard at full time. LDU Quito completely failed to develop competent attacks throughout the match and had two of their best players sent off, and therefore, suspended for the return leg of this tie.

Augusto Fernandez scored twice in the first half, assisted by Santiago Silva and Juan Manuel Martinez, who both provided fantastic setups for Fernandez. The half ended with the score 2-0, and Velez already appeared to have a massive advantage at that point. Not far after the second half started, Luis Bolaños was sent off for a second yellow card offense, and Sebastien Dominguez scored on the ensuing free kick, all but putting the tie to bed. Néicer Reasco Yano received a red card as well, and both him and Bolaños will be suspended for the second leg, seriously impacting LDU Quito’s chances of a surprise comeback.
