After a long scoreless stalemate, Lionel Messi put Barcelona on top with a lovely volley from close range off of Ibrahim Afellay's low cross. A nice bit of skill from all involved, but nothing compared to what was to come.
Real Madrid Vs. Barcelona, 2011 UEFA Champions League: Video Of Lionel Messi’s Superb Second Goal
The goal was an 87th minute dagger as Real Madrid must now travel to the Camp Nou having conceded two away goals. Messi casually took possession near the half line, let loose with a signature burst of sudden acceleration, evaded no fewer than five Real defenders and topped it with a sensational finish past a helpless Iker Casillas. The cleverness, the audacious run, the close control and the seemingly impossible finish-pure Lionel Messi, and on the biggest possible stage. It might not have been the most exhilarating game of football ever played for its vast majority but Lionel Messi, as he's so often done, made it all worthwhile.
Assuming of course you’re not a Real Madrid fan.
