Although they went into the break down 1-0 thanks to a goal by Luis Paez, Jaguares Chiapas staged a strong fightback in the second half and eventually levelled the game 1-1. It was crucial for the hosts to get something out of the match, the first leg of their Copa Libertadores Round of Sixteen clash with Atletico Junior, and who better to give them that boost than Jackson Martinez, who had been out with an injury since January. Martinez rose unopposed to knock home an Alan Zamora free kick.
Jaguares Chiapas Vs. Atletico Junior: 1-1 At Full Time After Chiapas Fightback
It was no more than Chiapas deserved after a superb start to the second half, and they dominated the rest of the match only to find it impossible to score further. Despite the home side having the bulk of the chances in the second half, Junior came close a few times on the counterattack as well, and Chiapas have goalkeeper Jorge Villapando to thank along with Martinez for doing an excellent job in keeping the visitors from inflicting further damage. The match ended at 1-1, so we’ll be going to Colombia for the second leg, with the tie in Junior’s favour, if only by a hair.
