Radamel Falcao has put on a masterful performance tonight at the Dragao, scoring four goals en route to FC Porto's 5-1 rout of Villarreal in the 2011 UEFA Europa League. All five of the team's goals, including Falcao's four, all came in the second half after Porto went into the dressing room at halftime down 1-0.
Porto Vs. Villarreal, 2011 UEFA Europa League: 5-1 Full Time, Falcao Dominant
When Cani scored a near post header just before the stroke of halftime, it looked like Porto had a bit of a mountain to climb. Villarreal opened the first half looking dangerous, but moments after Cani missed another good chance, Falcao turned the game around, drawing a penalty for a foul by Diego Lopez, which he went on to convert himself.
Fredy Guarin, the other player who was able to score for Porto, added his goal in the 61st minute after abusing Bruno Soriano at the endline with a great cutback, hitting the post with a shot, and heading in his own rebound. At that point, Villarreal began to fall apart completely.
Falcao scored his second goal in the 67th minute, scoring a tap-in goal off a great low cross from Hulk’s right foot, a great setup from a man who is notoriously reliant on his powerful left. Falcao scored two more goals, both on great headers from set pieces.
Porto’s 5-1 lead is almost certainly insurmountable, and Villarreal will probably just be playing for pride at home in the return leg.
