Napoli Vs. Lazio: Stefano Mauri Gives Lazio Surprise Lead At The San Paolo

In the early match at the San Paolo, Lazio have been defensive, thuggish and over - cautious. Napoli have played their typical, free-flowing football. Yet it is somehow the visitors that have taken the lead, with a 29th minute goal by Stefano Mauri. Up until that point, the Napoli defense had been nearly flawless, executing perfect tackles and making sure Lazio came nowhere near the area. Yet the normal fortress of the San Paolo just fell apart in the face of Mauri as he received the ball from Mauro Zarate and dribbled through a grand total of four light blue shirts. Mauri's shot caught Morgan De Sanctis off guard as it rolled past the Napoli keeper and just inside the far post.

Just minutes later, Mauri very nearly got a second, again getting past the Napoli defense and facing De Sanctis alone. Fortunately for the home side, the forward skewed the ball wide.
