    Borussia Dortmund Clinch Bundesliga Title

    Germany has a new champion thanks to results in the Bundesliga today. Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 win over FC Nürnberg, combined with Bayer Leverkusen’s shock loss at FC Köln, puts Dortmund eight points clear of Leverkusen with two games left to play, a mathematically insurmountable gap. It’s been clear for at least six weeks that Dortmund were eventually going to claim the crown, but they’d been scuffling a little of late and it’s surprising to see them wrap things up already.

    That’s not to say they don’t deserve their win - Dortmund have been both irresistable and thoroughly likable this year, with an impressive young core featuring the likes of Mario Gotze, Nuri Sahin, and Neven Subotic. All it took, in the end, was a relatively easy win over Nürnberg courtesy of goals from Milan Barrios and Robert Lewandowski in the first half, allowing the 80,000 fans in the Westfalenstadionto celebrate the team’s first title since 2002.
