Philadelphia Union Vs. San Jose Earthquakes: Jordan Harvey Receives Red

The Philadelphia Union will play the final 50 or so minutes with 10 men as Jordan Harvey has received a straight red card for allegedly stomping on San Jose Earthquakes defender Chris Leitch in the 42nd minute. On the play, Leitch went sliding toward Harvey trying to win a free ball. Harvey pulled up short and appeared to make a stomping motion toward Leitch, who at that point was laying on the ground. Leitch retaliated by kicking at Harvey, but did not receive any card.

The card was the fourth of the match and the third for the Union, although Harvey had not been involved in any of them. There had been an incident several minutes earlier that resulted in both Union goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon and Earthquakes midfielder Brandon McDonald each receiving yellow cards. Those cards were the result of a shouting match between Mondragon and McDonald after the goalkeeper took offense to a challenge from Chris Wondolowski.
