Whether or not the red card Jordan Harvey received for allegedly stomping on Earthquakes defender Chris Leitch was fair, the fact of the matter is the Philadelphia Union face an uphill battle in the second half. Although the score is tied 0-0, the Union have not exactly shown much penchant for scoring even when they have a full complement of players. Now with 10 men, they'll need to equal their season-high goal output to get anymore than one point against an Earthquakes team that is riding a three-match winless streak.
Philadelphia Union Vs. San Jose Earthquakes, Halftime: Union Face Uphill Battle
The Union have yet to score more than one goal in any game this season and weren’t looking particularly dangerous even before Harvey’s 42nd minute red card. They have taken just two shots, despite holding a 58-42 possession advantage.
The Union have had a couple decent opportunities, but neither one of them really turned into anything as San Jose defenders were able to cut off passing lanes before anything really developed.
