Philadelphia Union Vs. San Jose Earthquakes: Sebastien Le Toux’s First Goal Of Season Gives Union Lead

Capitalizing on what will surely go down as one of the weaker penalty calls of the season, Sebastien Le Toux gave the 10-man Philadelphia Union a 1-0 lead over the San Jose Earthquakes in the 76th minute on Saturday at PPL Park. It was Le Toux's first goal of the season. The penalty was awarded when an attempted cross from the endline may have hit the arm of Daniel Hernandez, who was sliding with his arms into his body. The replays were inconclusive in showing if the ball even touched his arm, but even if it did, it would seem to be the very definition of ball-to-hand.

In any case, the Union have had the better of play despite playing down a man for the entire second half. The Earthquakes have struggled to create almost any pressure and have not even controlled possession. While the penalty was undoubtedly soft, it can not be denied that the Union will have deserved these three points based on the run of play.
