Omar Salgado, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 MLS superDraft, will receive his first career start with the Vancouver Whitecaps. He will start along side Camilo Sanvezzo and in place of Designated Player Eric Hassli, who is missing his third game with a red-card suspension. Jay DeMerit is missing his third straight game with injury.
Columbus Crew Vs. Vancouver Whitecaps, Lineups: Omar Salgado Gets First Career Start
Salgado, who was a surprise No. 1 pick, spent the early part of the season with the United States U-20 team and has slowly been working his way into the good graces of Whitecaps coach Teitur Thordson. With Hassli out and Atiba Harris injured, that was apparently the opening for Salgado to get his first real chance. Salgado has made three other appearances but played just 19 minutes.
