New York Red Bulls Vs. Sporting Kansas City: A Maybe Offside Luke Rodgers Puts New York Up

The New York Red Bulls are the first team on the scoreboard thanks to a 22nd minute goal by Luke Rodgers, but was the Englishman offside? It's tough to tell. The Red Bulls quickly restarted near midfield as Rafa Marquez played a ball to Thierry Henry, which was flicked into the path of Dwayne De Rosario. Rosario spotted Rodgers making a run and with his second touch played a perfect cross that Rodgers easily put past a helpless Jimmy Nielsen.

Was Rodgers offside when De Rosario played him in though? It’s tough to tell.

The build up was so quick that the linesman was behind the play and didn’t have a good angle to tell whether or not Rodgers was offside. Offside or not, the goal was given and the Red Bulls lead 1-0. It’s a deserved lead to after they opened the match in complete control and even earned a penalty, only to see Nielsen save Marquez’s spot kick. Now Kansas City must push for a goal, something they have looked completely incapable of in the first 25 minutes.
