When Paul the Psychic Octopus passed away last year the world went into a very weird kind of mourning. Cephalopod jokes became all the rage for whole hours as we all celebrated the eventful life of our mollusky Cassandra. But fear not, friends - the world needs a psychic octopus to guide us through these turbulent times, and the mission is simply too important to have fallen with Sir* Paul.
Paul Becomes Pavlik As World Gets New Psychic Octopus
*He wasn’t knighted. I’m just calling him Sir Paul.
Enter Pavlik (the Psychic Octopus). Kiev’s Alushta Delphi Aquarium hoping that Pavlik can take Paul’s role in the Euro 2012 finals, and he impressed in his first attempt by favouring Barcelona over Shakhtar Donetsk at the Camp Nou for their Champions League quarter-final. A statement from director Viktor Zhilenko introduced our new oracle:
The octopus’s name is Pavlik and the staff of the aquarium will teach him to see into the future, like the German octopus Paul.
Whoa whoa whoa. Hold on a second. The aquarium staff will teach this little guy to see into the future? And Paul was taught by aquarium staff as well? This is big. I’m think I’m on the verge of discovering a huge aquatic magical conspiri... aargh!
