Between a terrible injury and the purchase of Mesut Özil, it’s been a tough year for Kaka. Thanks to Real Madrid’s exceptional fixture congestion over the next few weeks, he’s gotten a run-out today against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga. He doesn’t look like he’s all the way back to being the old Kaka, but thanks to Angel Di Maria, he has a brace. Yet again, the Argentinian winger has drawn a foul in the box, and again, Kaka was the man who stepped up and converted.

Xabier Castillo committed the foul, clearly pushing down Di Maria with his arm. Why Castillo thought he could get away with that is anyone’s guess, and Madrid now have a 2-0 lead despite the fact that they have not been dominant by any stretch of the imagination. With Madrid’s B+ or A- team on the field, Athletic have had plenty of chances to take control of this game, but some ill-advised fouls have spoiled those chances.
