The New York Red Bulls have been the better of the two teams in their match against the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park tonight, but their superiority has yet to result in goals. They’re tied up 0-0 at halftime, despite having plenty of possession and a couple of great opportunities. Juan Agudelo has been dangerous for the visitors, while the defensive trio of central defenders Tim Ream and Rafael Marquez, plus defensive midfieder Teemu Tainio have been allowed to dictate the pace of the game.
Philadelphia Union Vs. New York Red Bulls: 0-0 Halftime, New York Superior
Carlos Ruiz had Philadelphia’s best opportunity of the first half, forcing a good save out of Bouna Coundoul with a long range shot, but the Senegalese international made a good save. Agudelo hit the woodwork twice for the Red Bulls, and easily could have a goal to his name so far. The Red Bulls have had 62% of the possession, and the big gap between Philly’s strikers and central midfielders is to blame. Tainio has days worth of time and acres of space on the ball, and it’s had a negative effect on Philly’s game so far.
