USA Vs. Japan: USWNT Wins 2-0

The United States women didn’t do anything to add to their 2-0 halftime lead, but they still looked sharp after halftime and have plenty of positives to take away from their first of two 2011 Women’s World Cup warm-up friendlies against Japan. Abby Wambach scored the opening goal in the 29th minute, heading in an Ali Krieger free kick, while Amy Rodriguez scored the clincher in the 37th minute, tapping in a close range finish after a fantastic team move.

Becky Sauerbrunn got a chance at playing time in defense with Amy LePeilbet injured and impressed, showing Pia Sundhage that she has another starting quality option in defense if LePeilbet is injured or in poor form. All of the United States substitutes looked solid, but Lindsay Tarpley went down with a knee injury. Her injury is reported as a sprained knee, and if that is the case, it should not keep her out of the Women’s World Cup.
