It didn't take the Portland Timbers long to get on the board after halftime was over. Former Columbus Crew defender Eric Brunner made his former team pay for not protecting him in the Expansion Draft last fall as he headed home yet another set piece goal for the Portland Timbers. Jack Jewsbury played a quick kick to Kalif Alhassan who set a nice chip over the Crew's defense to find Brunner on the back post.
Portland Timbers Vs. Columbus Crew: Brunner Opens Second Half With Goal
Portland made a sub to start the second half as Sal Zizzo came on for Darlington Nagbe. Zizzo immediately sparked his club as he sent a dangerous ball into the mix and a foul outside the box caused the free kick. Just like we've seen all season the Timbers made the other team pay for giving up a set piece.
The Crew are now playing like a frustrated club giving up more dangerous spots for the Timbers. Giving up such an early goal in the half can’t be a good sign for the visitors who looked very dangerous in the first half.
