Libertad Vs. Fluminese: 0-0 At Halftime With Hosts Dominating Match

Who’d have forseen Libertad dominating Fluminese in the first half of their second leg Copa Libertadores Round of Sixteen Clash? Fluminese went into this fixture with a two-goal advantage, having won 3-1 at home, but they’re frankly luck to have any advantage at all right now as the opening forty five minutes were essentially characterised by the hosts pounding Ricardo Berna’s goal with a flurry of good chances.

There was a good save, some bad finishes and a nice dose of flat-out bad luck, but overal it points to a tale of dominance (11-2 in shots) from the Paraguayans I don’t think anyone was expecting. However, they haven’t made it count, and it’s 0-0 at halftime. It’s unlikely that Fluminese will be as under the cosh in the second half as they were in the first too, so the failure to take advantage of the visitors when they had them on the back could well come back to bite Libertad. Fun match so far, however.

Internacional Vs. Peñarol, 2011 Copa Libertadores: Inter’s Title Defense Ends In Stunning Fashion

Despite appearing to have progression to the quarterfinals of Copa Libertadores in the bag at halftime, Internacional have been sent crashing out of the competition in stunning fashion. Thanks two two goals immediately after halftime, the first of which came just 14 seconds after play resumed, Peñarol are going through to the next round of Copa Libertadores after winning 2-1 on the night at the Beira-Rio and 3-2 on aggregate.

Oscar’s goal for Inter just 80 seconds into the game put his team ahead after a 1-1 draw in Montevideo, and the first half would end with the hosts on the night holding a 2-1 aggregate advantage. However, just 14 seconds after the kickoff, Jose Manuel Olivera slid a ball into the box for Alejandro Martinuccio, and he finished calmly with a high shot into the upper ninety. In the 50th minute, Peñarol took the lead for good as Olivera notched a goal of his own, scoring a header from close range.
