There aren’t many soccer players who will admit to be disappointing with a two-assist performance in a victory. But most players don’t find themselves riding an eight-game goal-scoring streak, the way Carolina Railhawks forward Etienne Barbara was entering this weekend’s game.

↵↵“I’m not proud of assists. I don’t care about assists. I want goals,” Barbara said. “It just wasn’t my day to score.”
↵↵Barbara, in case you haven’t heard, is the midst of what might be the hottest start in professional North American soccer history. Through his first nine matches, the Malta import leads the NASL in goals (11) and assists (five), and seems well on his way to earning a look from a bigger team.

In the meantime, he's developing a deadly partnership with teammate Pablo Campos, who he likened to a spouse. Campos, who spent the last two seasons in MLS, now has five goals and should have had a sixth (off another assist from Barbara) but a second goal on Saturday was negated by a phantom hand ball.
