Chivas USA came into Saturday's match at Real Salt Lake's Rio Tinto Stadium a decided underdog. After Andrew Boyens picked up his second yellow card in the 25th minute, leaving the Goats with just 10 men, they are going to have to work pretty hard just to get a point.
Real Salt Lake Vs. Chivas USA: Goats Down To 10 Men After Andrew Boyens’ Second Yellow
Boyens' second foul was a pretty obvious card, as he lowered his shoulder on Alvaro Saborio in the middle of the pitch. The contact was not particularly hard, but it was a clear foul and Boyens had committed several other clear fouls throughout the early going. On the second yellow, the ball was not even anywhere particularly close to play and Boyens appeared to be trying to disrupt the already slumping Saborio.
RSL entered the match having not lost in their last 30 MLS matches at home, a streak that dates back to May 2009. In the early going, they’ve had the better of the play even before Boyens was sent off.
